He was truly one of the key contributors amongst handful of people who introduced modern football to Iran. The purpose of the site is to chronicle the life and achievements of this man, known as “Mohandes Razi” for the Football community of Iran, fans, new generation of football players, his family and grandchildren, and outline his contribution to the world of football in Iran.

Mahmoud Razi lived his life with the love of football and he devoted most of his time to train and help the young generation at his time. He believed the young generation and youth need to have opportunity to play football and he provided this opportunity for them as much as he could with very little resources that was available to him at that time. There are so many football players and champions who were touched by Mahmoud Razi’s training and skills during the decades of 1950s to 1960s and after. He passed away in the year of 1999 in Tehran and unfortunately his devotion and contributions to the world of football in Iran were not noticed nor recognized by the Iranian football Federation and sports authorities.
Mahmoud Razi was a member of the Sarbaz football team, and Iranian national team during the 1940s. Mr. Addabkhah, one of his football friends established Shargh Sports Club, and got Mahmoud Razi to run and share the ownership of the club, later on, he sold the club to Mahmoud Razi. This club was one of the few early clubs that started introducing variety of modern sports beside football to the young Iranian generation at that time. Wrestling, ping pong, basketball, volleyball and track and field were amongst the sports offered by these clubs. Later on, other clubs like Poulad,Tehran Javan, Kian, Shaheen, Taaj, Daraei, Kian and few others followed the new approach towards modern Football and other sports in Iran.

Majid I have a picture for you.
Small world! I was first introduced to Mr. Razi by my friend and mentor Mahmoud Bayati. At that time I was managing Taj youth teams. There was a tournament in Tehran for clubs “B” teams. Read second strings or younger teams. Mr. Razi told me that he has no team for this tournament and would like me to field a team under Shargh banner. I was happy to hear his offer, I had a good team mostly from Shemran to participate. Mr. Razi then added that he has one player that he wants me to look at. His name was Mohammad Ali Malekian, he called him “Mandal” and said that he is his nephew. I tried Mandal at Center and was pleasantly surprised. Mandal became an starter in my team. We participated in the tournament and reached the final. Mr. Razi joined me to watch the final from the sideline. We lost to powerful Shahin second squad 2-1 in Amjadieh. I never forget Mr. Razi’s very subtle suggestions about the game and enjoyed his advice. It was circa 1960. I live in Vancouver BC and I know of a former Sharfg player who lives here as well. He is Alireza Kashi.
